Julia Jackman

100 Nights of Hero
2025 / United Kingdom

Film description

100 Nights of Hero is Julia Jackman’s visually striking and sensuous queer fantasy drama, based on Isabel Greenberg’s graphic novel of the same name. Set in a mythical, fairy-tale world, the story follows Cherry (Maika Monroe), who becomes the object of a wager between two domineering men. If her true companion, Hero (Emma Corrin), can tell captivating stories for one hundred consecutive nights — tales centred around the enigmatic Rosa (Charli XCX) — Cherry may be spared from the grasp of men driven by lust, insecurity or childish ego.

Echoing the narrative structure of classic fable cycles, particularly One Thousand and One Nights, the film reframes the act of storytelling through a contemporary feminist lens. Here, narration is not merely a strategy for survival, but a radical gesture of identity, solidarity and resistance. Blending romance with darker fantasy elements, the film constructs a lush, stylised world where desire, power and self-determination collide.

About the Director

Julia Jackman

Julia Jackman is a British writer-director whose work is characterised by emotional sensitivity, playful tone and strong queer perspectives. Her debut feature, Bonus Track (2023), a high-school coming-of-age story, was praised for its assured direction and character-driven storytelling, earning attention from both young audiences and critics.

With 100 Nights of Hero, her second feature, Jackman takes on an ambitious contemporary comic-book adaptation, combining a remarkable ensemble cast with a richly stylised visual world. The film demonstrates her ability to approach themes of social change, identity and empowerment with both maturity and wit — creating cinema that is politically aware yet imaginative and delightfully playful.
